I put a stitch pattern up (on my Yahoo group, "Crochet is everything else" for the x's and o's crochet pattern made with sc rows alternating with an X row (front or back Xstitch) and an O row (dc, ch1 across). I have used it to make vests, prayer shawls, bookmarks, washcloths, and baby afghans. It is one of my favorites. This sample is a washcloth made in thread crochet. I added 40+ links as well.
